My Space
Are you on My Space? You aren't one of 11 million people on My Space? Get with the program. My Space (www.myspace.com) is an website that allows people to connect in the most fascinating way. I am told it is similar to "FaceBook" that is used on UTK's campus. Each person creates their own profile which includes- pictures, background information, favorites, etc. Other members can ask to be one of your "friends" where your pictures are shown on each other's profiles. You can send a friend a message, post a comment, or bulletin. You can join a group, such as a UT alumni group, or a Bible Study group. You can search by key words, such as Memphis or UTMartin, etc. There are people on My Space from all over the world...
I joined My Space several months ago. I have been selective with my "friends" so I only have 16. Some people will put anyone as their friend and may have several hundred. The majority of the people on My Space are in the 20's. I have friends from here, Knoxville and even friends from college.
I read about My Space in a recent "Business Week" article (yes Business Week). It said that My Space started as a way for bands to get their music out (especially new bands). Today, people like Jay-Z and Todd Agnew have My Space pages as well.
Why join My Space? Its been fun for me to post comments to friends and to reconnect with people from school. I love searching by my sorority or college or city to see who all I know. It will be interesting to see how My Space continues to grow and be used as a media outlet.
Will you catch the fever?
